SUMMARY:Bioethical Responsibilities in Twenty-First Century Crises
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Tuesday April 14th from 7-8:15pm Eastern for a virtual conversation among bioethicists engaging new approaches to tackle current bioethical crises. The conversation will be held as a virtual webinar hosted by the University of Cincinnati Center for Public Engagement with Science to welcome a recent essay collection\, Bioethical Responsibilities in Twenty-First Century Crises\, out now with Bloomsbury Press as part of its Revolutionary Bioethics Series.\n\nThis virtual event will be a discussion between the book editors\, Elizabeth Lanphier and Larry Churchill and four authors from the collection – Johnathan Flowers\, Takunda Matose\, Lisa S. Parker\, and Travis Rieder – to engage in a rich conversation about the core themes of the book: the need for new bioethical methods and focus to address contemporary problems not previously at the forefront of the field\, but for which bioethics is essential to producing solutions. The featured authors’ chapters speak to topics including disability and erasure\, incarceration and detention\, climate change and environmental catastrophe\, and the role of emotions\, affect\, and time in reasoning. The conversation will consider how each of these topics are becoming more pressing every day\, and how\, as individuals and communities\, we might think about our responsibilities to address them. Recognizing that bioethics and the events of our world touch each of us who are alive\, this will be an engaged\, public-facing conversation for a wide audience.\n\nFor those unable to attend live\, the conversation will be recorded and viewable on the Center for Public Engagement with Science YouTube page. But those attending live will also be able to participate and ask questions. We hope to see you there.
