SUMMARY:Medicine and Resistance Under Non-ideal Conditions
DESCRIPTION:This inquiry-based webinar explores responding to extreme patient vulnerability\, especially but not exclusively in the context of heightened immigration enforcement\, as a problem for bioethics. It pays particular attention to the possibility of safe and accessible healthcare delivery and the nature and scope of resistance and activism in medicine. The presentation will pose difficult questions to generate conversation for philosophers\, bioethicists\, and healthcare professionals about how present-day political-medical challenges are shaping the future of medical practice under non-ideal conditions. \nThe panelists for this event are as follows: \n\nLauren Freeman\, University of Louisville\nAvery Kolers\, University of Tennessee at Knoxville\nAmy Reed-Sandoval\, University of Nevada\, Las Vegas\nBarrett Emerick (facilitator)\, St. Mary’s College of Maryland\n\nThis event is a collaboration with the North American Society for Social Philosophy. \nRegistration is required and will be available until 9 a.m. Eastern time / 6 a.m. Pacific time on the day of the event\, and access information will be provided to registrants by email at least one hour prior to the start of the event.
