A Life Worth Sustaining? Bestowed Worth and the Meaningfulness of Continuing Treatments for Children with Neurological Devastation or at the End of Life
Xiang Yu, PhD & Daniel T. Kim, PhD, MPH
Dr. Yu is an assistant professor and clinical ethicist in the Institute for Bioethics and Health Humanities. Previously, she was a clinical ethics fellow at the Alden March Bioethics Institute at Albany Medical College. She obtained a PhD in Philosophy from The Ohio State University. Dr. Yu’s research focuses on well-being (especially issues related to desires), decision-making capacity, and psychiatric ethics.
Dr. Kim received a PhD in Religious Ethics from the University of Chicago and MPH in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Yale University. He is a 2021-22 fellow of the ManLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago. His research examines ethical questions that arise in the interrelations of self, community, and culture, specifically as those concerns relate to clinical moral distress, end-of-life care, health justice, and medical ethics education. He previously served as Senior Associate of the Center for Ethics and Professionalism at the American College of Physicians, Assistant Director of the Program on Medicine and Religion at the University of Chicago, and Managing Editor of Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics. His work has been published in Annals of Internal Medicine, Perspectives in Biology and Medicine, Academic Medicine, Journal of Clinical Ethics, American Journal of Public Health, and Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics.
