Confinement and Care: The Ethics of Health Care Behind Bars

You are invited to join us for The Greenwall Foundation’s William C. Stubing Memorial Lecture, Confinement and Care: The Ethics of Health Care Behind Bars, on Monday, November 16, at 6:30 p.m. EST.

Homer Venters, MD, former Chief Medical Officer for the New York City jail system, will discuss the ethical dimensions of health care in carceral settings, including jails, prisons, and immigration detention centers. Dr. Venters currently serves as a court-appointed monitor of correctional health and is the author of Life and Death in Rikers Island (2019). He will be joined in conversation by Keri Blakinger, an investigative reporter at ProPublica covering federal prisons and the death penalty.

The Greenwall Foundation will host this year’s William C. Stubing Memorial Lecture in person in New York City and online. The event will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. EST, followed by the moderated conversation beginning at 6:30 p.m. EST. An audience question-and-answer session will follow. Registration is free and open to all, but in-person seating is limited.
