ELSIconversations | The ‘E’ in ELSI

Normative approaches have been central to the ELSI field since its beginning; however, many contemporary ELSI scholars are less familiar with this approach and find translating their empirical findings into normative arguments daunting. This panel of ELSI scholars will take up three questions: what normative methods are and how to describe them well; how empirical and normative work inform one another in ELSI research; and what distinguishes the questions normative scholars ask and the products they produce. The conversation will focus on what it looks like to do this work well in practice.
