A Japanese research team said it has successfully created three-dimensional kidney parts from human induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells for the first time in the world. The achievement, published Thursday in the U.S. journal Cell Stem Cell, is “expected to lead to the reproduction of kidneys and the understanding of kidney disease mechanisms,†said Kumamoto University Prof. Ryuichi Nishinakamura, who leads the team.
