Australia: Cloning’s questionable case

November 1, 2006

According to answers provided by the National Health and Medical Research Council, only one licence has been “issued for the generation of embryonic stem cell lines aimed at treating a specific condition . . . To date, 30 of these excess ART (assisted reproductive technology) embryos have been used, resulting in the production of the stem cell line Endeavour-I”.

One licence, 30 embryos, one disease study downstream. That’s not much of an innings since 2002. (The Courier-Mail)
