Stem cell study battle heats up
August 12, 2008
Opponents of a proposed constitutional amendment to allow Michigan scientists to derive embryonic stem cells from human embryos for medical research kick-started their campaign to defeat it, saying Monday it would open the door to human cloning. “This proposal is deceptive and is hazardous because it will allow unregulated and unrestricted experimentation on human embryos,” said state Sen. Tom George, R-Kalamazoo, a practicing physician who will co-chair the opposition group, Michigan Citizens Against Unrestricted Science & Experimentation. (The Detroit News)
