Call for Abstracts – EACME Annual Meeting: “Multiculturalism, Religions, and Bioethicsâ€, Venice, Italy (10-11 Sept 2009)

In 2009 Fondazione Lanza, Padova, “Ca’ Foscariâ€Â University of Venice, and the European Association of Centres of Medical Ethics (EACME) will organise the EACME annual conference. Fondazione Lanza will be the co-ordinator and the University ofVenice will be the host of the event. The event is organized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Fondazione Lanza.

There are four central topics:
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Multiculturalism, Religions and Bioethics in a Post-Modern Society;
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Universal Values and General Ethical Standards in a Multicultural Context;
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Towards a Mediterranean Bioethics;
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Healthcare in the Context of Migration: Social Aspects of Care and Vulnerability.

Abstracts addressing the ethical dimensions of the following topics can be submitted:
Multiculturalism, Religions and Bioethics in a Post-Modern Society:

–          Western and ‘alternative’ medicine in a multicultural worldÂ
Universal Values and General Ethical Standards in a Multicultural Context:
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Human rights, contextualization and bioethics
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Universal ethical standards for research
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Ethics codes and moral virtues
Towards a Mediterranean Bioethics:
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Bioethics in the context of inter-religious dialogue among Islamic, Jewish, and Christian religions
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Women, children and healthcare
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Western bioethics and developing world bioethics. What dialogue between North and South?
Healthcare in the Context of Migration. Social Aspects of Care and Vulnerability:

–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Social-ethical approaches to vulnerable groups
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Informed consent in the context of migration
The program of the conference includes plenary sessions as well as parallel sessions. Persons wishing to present papers at the conference are invited to submit an abstract addressing the ethical dimensions of the conference topics (500 words maximum) before March 1, 2009. Papers will be selected from the abstracts by the Conference Program Committee.
