9 Lessons Atul Gawande Taught Me about Dying

(Vox) – Gawande, a cancer surgeon and New Yorker author, wanted to talk about dying. In fact, he wants everyone to talk about dying. He’s even written a book, “Being Mortal,” to get the conversation going. The inspiration, Gawande, says, was realizing that he didn’t know how to talk about dying — nor did his colleagues. “What I saw over and over again is that mortality is one of the problems that we simply didn’t deal well with. I didn’t deal well with it. I didn’t know how to break bad news to people.”
