Bioethics Conference: Test Your Genes
Aarhus University, Dennmark
January 14, 2009
Do-it-yourself tests which reveal susceptibility to certain diseases or the need for a change of lifestyle are increasingly common. But what are the consequences of these tests, and is there a need for greater regulation? A conference organised by the Nordic Committee on Bioethics will discuss these issues at Aarhus University in January 2009.
The conference will bring together experts from all over the Nordic Region, as well as a representative of The Human Genetics Commission in the United Kingdom, and will approach the subject from commercial, ethical and scientific points of view.
How do you strike a balance between the individual’s right to seek knowledge about his or her self and the difficulties of coping with insight that requires the support of medical professionals?
These and many other questions will be discussed at the conference on 14 January 2009, which is designed to encourage debate about the need for joint Nordic legislation.
Deadline for registration: 19 December.
