Patient, Heal Thyself
How the “new medicine” puts the patient in charge
Robert M. Veatch, PHD
Senior Research Scholar, Kennedy Institute of Ethics
Professor of Medical Ethics and Professor of Philosophy
Georgetown University

Join Georgetown’s Medical Ethics Faculty in what promises to be a lively conversation with one of the founding fathers of bioethics, Professor Robert M. Veatch.  Professor Veatch will initiate the conversation with a description of the theme he has developed for thirty years, namely that a fundamental and radical change is sweeping through the American health care system that puts the patient in charge of treatment to an unprecedented extent.  It will be intriguing to see if our medical ethics physician faculty concur that we are in the early stages of a “new medicine” that will replace what we think of as modern medical practice—and if this would be a good thing.  Bring your experience, reflection and queries to what we believe will be a memorable evening—one guaranteed to honor Dr. John Collins Harvey, MD, PhD, physician par excellence!
