International Conference on Bioethics and Human Rights, Baku, Azerbaijan (17-19 June 2009
On June 17-19, 2009 in Baku, Azerbaijan, and in the framework of the celebration of the National Human Rights Day in Azerbaijan (18 June), the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in close cooperation with the Azerbaijan Medical Association, and with the support of the UNESCO Moscow Office will organize an International Conference “Bioethics, Human Rights and New Technologies: legal and ethical aspects of reproductive health and family planningâ€.
The aim of the Conference is to discuss modern problems in the field of human rights related to the rapid developments in science and technology and ethical issues raised by the rapid advances in science, including the problems of reproductive health and family planning, which should be examined with due respect to the dignity of the human rights and fundamental freedoms. The Ombudspersons from different countries, the representatives of the international organizations, members of Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan, international and national experts in the field of human rights, bioethics and ethics of science and technology, representatives of academic community, governmental institutions, intergovernmental organizations, major research institutes and non-governmental organizations, members of National Bioethics Committees of CIS countries, members of local and regional ethics committees will participate at the Conference.
The agenda of the meeting will include:
- plenary session, during which the experts in human rights, bioethics and ethics of science and technology will share their experience in the field of human rights related to the rapid developments in science and technology, and discuss legal and ethical aspects of reproductive health and family planning;
- roundtables for ombudspersons and other experts in the field of human rights, which will be a good chance for discussing the modern challenges in human rights protection;
- capacity-building seminar for local ethics committees of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
