Lawsuit against Chesapeake Regional is about fraud, not malpractice, attorney says

(WAVY) – Although the average person might consider unauthorized procedures involving sterilization and unnecessary induced labor, as well as false diagnoses of cancer, to be “malpractice,” that is not the basis of a recent lawsuit against Chesapeake Regional Medical Center
The lawsuit was filed last month on behalf of a growing number of women, now at more than 600, in connection with OBGYN Javaid Perwaiz. He was convicted in late 2020 on federal charges of performing medically unnecessary procedures and healthcare fraud. The fraud is the basis of the lawsuit, according to attorney Anthony DiPietro.
