City living is giving us heart attacks more than we thought, four health orgs say

(Straight Arrow News) – Four of the world’s leading heart health organizations warned Tuesday that environmental factors, including pollution, noise exposure and artificial light, are major drivers of cardiovascular disease, such as heart disease and stroke.
In their first-ever joint statement published in the European Heart Journal, the European Society of Cardiology, the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association and the World Heart Federation estimated that environmental and climate-related hazards cause about 20% of the 20 million deaths annually from cardiovascular disease (CVD) — a group of diseases that affect the heart and blood vessels.
