Pancreatic Grafts Made Immune-Tolerant
December 22, 2014
(Union Times San Diego) – Researchers including scientists from San Diego’s ViaCyte say they’ve engineered immune tolerance to pancreatic tissue derived from human embryonic stem cells, grafted into humanized mouse models. The treatment, if it works in people, could help ViaCyte’s quest for a cure of Type 1 diabetes. The research was published Thursday in the journal Cell Stem Cell. Gregory L. Szot was first author; Helene Bour-Jordan and Jeffrey A. Bluestone were senior authors.
