Some anesthesiology residents develop substance use disorder

Nearly 1-in-100 anesthesiology residents entering primary training from 1975 to 2009 developed substance use disorder during training, U.S. researchers say. Dr. David Warner of Mayo Clinic’s Department of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Anesthesiology board of directors said the incidence of this disorder is continuing to increase and the risk of relapse or death is high.
