New genetic tests reveal if patients are carriers of debilitating diseases

FOR the first time, Victorian couples will be able to find out if they have an increased risk of having a baby with three devastating medical conditions before they conceive. It will reveal if they are genetic carriers of cystic fibrosis, fragile X syndrome and spinal muscular atrophy, giving them the option to have IVF to select and implant embryos without the genetic changes.
