Gene-Therapy

Last night I started reading Counting Heads, a science fiction novel where, among other things, science and medicine have eliminated aging (but not evil). According to an article entitled ” The Body: Bulletproof,” the elimination of aging isn’t a matter of science fiction, just a matter of time. The article reviews some of the current research in gene therapy, from the more conventional things like targeting disease and dealing with the effects of aging to things that are more, well, exotic: “GT [gene-therapy] injections could one day turn your hair blue, your skin red, your eyes yellow.” Sadly, the author eschews questions of good or bad, right or wrong, helpful or unhelpful; and assigns gene-therapy to the category of inevitable.
