On 30 September, during a visit to the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, Maryland, President Barack Obama announced $5 billion in stimulus grants from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (see ‘Obama visits Bethesda for stimulus announcement’).
