Advance decisions, chronic mental illness, and everyday care

Advance decisions (advance directives) were placed on a statutory basis in English law in 2007. Such decisions can be an important and highly valued way in which a person can ensure that his wishes will be respected when, due to lack of capacity, he is no longer capable of expressing them himself.  (The Lancet)
